Spring Dance Party History:

9th Annual Spring Dance Party and Variety Show -- Saturday, 09 April 2005
This year we added the Variety Show to the Party.  It was fun and we have some good performers but having a piano and drum kit on the stage all night really caused some issues as the kids were playing with them all night long.  Finally we need to pack them up so that we could dance.  Cousin Bill played classical guitar at the party and was a big hit.  Other performers gave performances on the drums and some wonderful vocal performances.  Jennifer spinned records and was joined by Guest DJ Corrine from the Bloomington neighborhood.  We had a good turn-out from friends and family.  Beth and kids have moved to Ohio and we missed them, Martin joined us and we will probably loose him next year.  We will miss Beth and Martin.  Dan is still in Berlin and probably dances more than anyone!  The first song of the evening was 'I Want you to Want Me' by Cheap Trick.  The last song of the evening was 'Might like you better if we slept' together by Romeo Void.  We tore down to the Clash!

8th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 07 August 2004
We have moved the Spring Dance Party back into summer as we had some commitments in the Spring.  It was a wonderful party with some new people coming out of the wood work.  Steve Risberg joined us with some of his friends from Minneapolis.  All the regulars were in attendance ... Mike, Lena, Cole, Beth, Martin, Julian, Xaviar, Dan, Bill, Julie, Micheal Jon, Jake, Vern, Tim, John, Hank, Paul, Dee, Marina, Dave, Terri, Barb, John, Simon and many more.  We welcomed a large group from Saint Thomas University and also from the Linwood Neighborhood.  Jennifer's Mother Marilyn and Alfred and Kolbergs and Zimmerman's we all in attendance.  Pete and Sandy came and danced!  Each year this party is turning into a big kids party with more and more kids dancing!  The first song of the evening was 'Within Your Reach' by the Replacements.  The last song of the evening was 'Turning Japanese' by the Vapors.  We tore down to the Clash!

7th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 21 June 2003

Yes, I am once again caught writing the history of the last dance party shortly before the next dance party.  All I remember is there were so many people.  We never know who is going to come.  Some years we have many people other years we invite people from the bar to join us just to fill the dance floor.  Jennifer's Mother Marilyn and Alfred and Kolbergs and Zimmerman's we all in attendance.  Pete and Sandy came and danced!  We saluted Johnny Cash who passed on this year with a couple memorable songs (I forgot what they were).  To some peoples liking we ran out of fog juice (The liquid that runs the Fog Machine) ... The first song of the evening was <not defined> and the last song of the evening was Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone!

6th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 27 April 2002
Renaissance Box, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  This was a special dance party.  A friend Martin Lubell owns and operates the Renaissance Box in downtown Saint Paul.  In the basement is the Lounge Club.  It is a smaller space than Degitio's and all black!  Dancing was fun and we really fogged up the place.  At one point we just left the fog machine on and brought the lights down to eye level.  We also hosted Andrew Koebrick, Green Party candidate for Secretary of State.  What everyone missed was the Food and the steady flow of booze!  We estimated we had about 60-70 people.  Dan Huss was back after missing last years party for the first time.  Mike and Lena attended their last party without a child, Cole was born only a few months after the party.  The first song of the evening was London Calling by the Clash.  The last song of the evening was Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone!

5th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 11 May 2001
Degitio's Italian Restaurant, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  Today is 29 May 2003, so I don't remember too much about this Dance Party.

4th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 11 September 2000
Degitio's Italian Restaurant, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  It was a tough party for attendance.  Jennfier and I did not do the PR that we normally do and the turn out was not there!  We estimated we had about 30-40 people.  Dan Huss, in attendance from the very beginning was not in attendance!  But ... We had a fun time!  Family and Friends had a fun time talking during the dinner and then it was time to dance.  We turn the music up loud in hopes of forcing people to the dance floor ... ha ahh aha hahahaha ... Lena, Jennifer and Sharla played the music!  The first song of the evening was Orange Blossom Special by Johnny Cash ... The last song of the evening was Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone!

3th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 23 May 1999
Degitio's Italian Restaurant, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  We had about 80 people for dinner and then about 10 more people came when the dancing started.  It was a fun evening.  Jennifer raffled off a couple nice prizes and a bunch of goofy ones to support the local Human Society.  The first song of the evening was <unknown> ... The last song of the evening was Party At Ground Zero by Fishbone!

2th Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 12 June 1998
Degitio's Italian Restaurant, Saint Paul, Minnesota.  We moved the party to Degitio's after the police busted the last party.  We had about 60 people for dinner and dancing.  Jennifer held a raffle to support her film Crest of the Wave.  First song of the evening was <unknown> ... Last song of the evening was <unknown>  We added the Fog Machine to the standard equipment this year.

1st Annual Spring Dance Party -- Saturday, 21 May 1997
307 Warwick Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota (Home of Chris and Jennifer).  This was the first Spring Dance Party.  Jennifer and I thought that it would be fun to bring people together for a little party to welcome Spring after the long winter.  A time to get all of our friends, relatives and co-workers together some a little dinner, drinking and dancing.  We had about 50 people attend the party.  For me (Chris Macgowan) it was an excuse to rent a PRO sound system and play!!  Well it took a little bit to get people to start dancing ... normally people have to have a few beers (or what ever) to get them loose ... before they will start dancing.  At about 11:00 the dance floor in the basement was pretty packed and then about four Saint Paul Police showed up at the back door (because no one heard the front door bell).  Our Little Old Lady Neighbor Janet had called the police!  So that was the end of the party .... we slow danced the rest of the night to Frank Sinatra.
